Contact Comfort, a scientific term coined to embody the concept of ‘healing touch’, is a company dedicated to bringing innovative therapy to the masses. Founded by Darryl W. Burch in 1982, the initial goal of the company was the treatment of pain in order to improve the human condition, and has since expanded to include the teaching of a new generation of unique and effective therapists.

Applied Postural Mechanics, or APM, previously known as ‘Postural Mechanics, Soft-Tissue Massage’, represents a comprehensive and powerful set of assessment and treatment tools that bring the human body to a blueprint-precise archetype of posture and balance. This is truly what makes this work so different; the APM therapist is capable of applying pin-point specific soft-tissue releases to any compressed muscle, including the intrinsic muscles that initiate movement in the spine. Many forms of neuromuscular pain are not only caused by compressed tissues, but also by impinged nerves (hence the prefix ‘neuro’ in neuromuscular) and also by muscles that are placed under unnatural stress by the frame and are straining to hold; the result is often stimuli ranging from simple strain pain to the intense pain of fibromyalgia. APM techniques have evolved over 40 years into a new form of Muscle Energy Technique and we can now offer complete treatment plans for the most challenging clients that walk in your door. There are a number of causative factors for pain that ‘fall through the system’ and are not completely understood, and our treatment plans are specially designed for clients with this unfortunate but treatable profile.

Our vision is to see a vast reduction of pain due to structural dysfunctions of the body through the installation of available and affordable treatment and to create a posturally-perfect society.

Pain Treatment

The treatment of pain is a very multi-layered ministration for progressive physical improvement because it requires the practitioner to follow and correct the many patterns of compensation that occur due to structural imbalances. A completely pain-free life is not only possible, it is hard-wired into the anatomy of the body. Pain is simply the final result of a process indicating that the body is currently struggling to maintain stasis.

Muscle Energy Technique

It is a neuromuscular modality which has its roots in osteopathic medicine. MET is defined as the use of the muscle’s energy in the form of mild isometric contractions performed actively or passively on a patient to reset muscle lengths via the updating of muscle status information in the brain.

Soft Tissue Mobilization

Refers to the use of manual techniques to loosen the muscles, ligaments, tendons, and fascia. An example of this modality is Cross-Fiber Friction, or a strumming motion applied across the fibers of the tissues to improve the flexibility of scar tissue, release adhesions, and improve mobility.

Trigger Point Therapy

The application of directed compression upon an identified adhesion in the muscle tissues with the purpose of releasing the lesions, pushing out muscular byproducts in order to increase oxygen uptake, and improving efficient muscular function.

Sports Massage

A form of bodywork that is designed for the specific needs of athletes. Primary goals are preventing injuries, promoting optimal athletic performance, and aiding in the recovery of sports injuries.

Medical Massage

A focused treatment of painful conditions diagnosed by a doctor that a trained massage therapist performs, typically on specific areas of the body or other bodily areas still related to the diagnosed painful condition.

Trauma Injury

There is a huge void in the efficient and effective treatment of trauma injury. Trauma injuries occur all too often in the course of normal human activity and can be the result of a car accident, a fall, or a sports injury. Effective treatment means alleviating the acute symptoms initially, then ensuring there are no lasting or chronic effects from the injury.
