It was a name that came to me many years ago, before I understood what it actually means in a scientific sense. The term was popularized by a scientist named Harry Harlow who experimented with rhesus monkeys and discovered the comfort that infant monkeys received from their mothers due to physical touch was vital to their cognitive development and social well-being. In this context, it really means the comfort that a person can experience due to healing touch. When we discovered the name had a scientific basis, we decided to keep it as it really does express the fundamental goal that we are setting for every client.
